Most appropriate for ages 10 & up, this game is designed for school students from middle school to college, helping people of all ages remain acquainted with their poetic rhetoric.

This 45 card deck is an innovative Educational Playing Card Game that allow the family, the class or the clique to enjoy themselves over some friendly competition. The game consists of the following poetic elements: metaphor, simile, hyperbole, rhyme, alliteration, repetition, personification, oxymoron & onomatopoeia. You don't have to know about these poetic elements to want to win. You have to know what players has the poetic elements you need. So pay attention.

Please Help Us Raise Funds To Publish Our Original Playing Card Game. We Plan To Use This Game In Educational Facilities To Enhance The Reading & Writing Skills Of Students Of All Grades From Middle School To College. Thank you to the donors who ever gave at our weekly open mic at Word Up Cafe or at any of our public showings.


 

Directions for Pick-Up Poet Tree

  • (2-6 Players)

  • there are 45 cards in the deck

  • 9 different elements/types of cards (5 of each)

  • shuffle & Every player gets 5 cards

  • place the rest of the deck down in the middle

  • you (The Dealer) go first & ask another player for one of the elements in Your hand in attempt to get all 5 of that type of card. (The player to the left goes next)

  • when you ask and the player you ask has that element you asked for in their hand, they must give you all of them.

  • if they do not have that type of card in their hand, you must pick up one card from the deck.

  • by the end, when there is no one else to ask, the player with the most sets of elements (the most sets of 5) wins. there are 9 points p for grabs.

  • you can only ask for a card that's in your hand. you cannot ask for a card that you do not have in your hand.

  • If or when you run out of cards in your hand, pick up five cards from the deck. (In the case where the are 4 cards or less in the deck, you are not allowed to pick up and is out of the game with however many points you've earned so far.
